Labour Rights Protection from gender perspective in the super/hypermarket in Poland
The project“Labour rights protection from a gender perspective in super/hypermarkets in Poland” had been launched in March 2008 and lasted till October 2009. It aims at changing permanently the employment environment in Poland in order to strengthen the protection of labour rights of workers, mainly women, employed in the super/hypermarkets chains and at empowering them to exercise their rights. The gender aspect is underlined as up to 90% of all super/hypermarkets employees are women. The goals of the project will be achieved through lobbying and building social support for the amendments to the law and its practice developed during the project.
The KARAT together with its partners in the project: Association of Persons Wronged by Big Supermarket Chains “Biedronka”, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Feminoteka, legal firms providing assistance for supermarkets’ employees whose rights had been breached and Trade Unions will focus on identifying the gaps in the legal system resulting in the insufficient protection of labour rights in supermarkets, developing the proposals of law amendments, establishing and facilitating cooperation of actors supporting women’s labour rights, convincing the decision makers to provide a comprehensive system of the of the labour rights protection in the super/hypermarkets (lobbing and advocacy).
