EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 Kinga Lohmann
Executive Director
Kinga initiated and co-founded KARAT Coalition, and has been working for KARAT since 1997. Historian by training lived in West Africa for 14 years. As an activist involved in women’s movement since 1995 she elaborated and co-edited several reports and numerous articles and papers presented at international conferences. She has been a member of Polish and international advisory bodies on gender equality (e.g. member of EGCG of World Bank). In KARAT Kinga is an Executive Director responsible for overall strategy and management, external relations at European and international level, and for initiating new programs and partnerships.

Anita Seibert- Rekusz

Anita is a feminist geographer by training and has been working in KARAT's secretariat since 2002. Until then she lived in Australia where since early 1990s she has been involved in feminist movement as a student activist, NGO worker and academic. Also in Australia she has completed a PhD focusing on women in Poland. In KARAT she is responsible for various aspects of Economic Justice (e.g. economic literacy, labour market) and Gender and Development (e.g. raising awareness on women in development)  programs. As a Program Manager she is involved in the management and strategic decisions of KARAT Secretariat, and development of new projects and initiatives.
 
 
 Aleksandra Solik

Aleksandra joined KARAT Secretariat staff in 2006 but was engaged in its activities much before, e.g. monitoring process of Beijing+5 and Beijing+10 included. Mechanical engineer by profession, she has been active in women’s rights movement since the early nineties. Her expertise includes international women’s rights mechanisms, reproductive rights and gender mainstreaming. In KARAT she is responsible for women’s rights program (e.g. promotion of CEDAW, other UN human rights mechanisms as well as women’s labour rights). As a Program Manager she is involved in the management and strategic decisions of KARAT Secretariat, and development of new projects. Aleksandra was a co-founder of KARAT Coalition and its Board Member from 2005 to 2007.
 
 
 Joanna Szabuńko

Joanna has been working at KARAT’s Secretariat since 2004. As a Program Manager she is responsible for parts of Gender and Development and  Economic Justice (e.g. working conditions and social rights) programs including campaigns, research, publications, websites. She is also involved in the management and strategic decisions of KARAT Secretariat, as well as development of new projects. Joanna started to be involved in women's movement while she joined KARAT. Before she worked for international human rights NGOs in Poland and Geneva as well as for Polish state administration, mainly as a reporter and researcher. She holds Masters’ Degree in International Relations.
 
 

OFFICERS

 Ewa Kamińska
Networking Officer

Ewa joined KARAT Secretariat in May 2009. She was involved mainly in Fair Play in sporting goods industry project. In March 2010 she took the position of the networking officer so she is a right person to contact with in relation to the daily functioning of the Coalition. Before joining KARAT, Ewa worked voluntarily in the Polish section of Amnesty International as the coordinator of the local group in Łódź and then as a Board member. She was focusing on reproductive and sexual rights. Now her interests has turned more on economic justice and Corporate Social Responsibility in garment industry. Ewa holds Master’s Degree in International Relations. She has also done Women’s Studies at the University of Granada within the framework of Erasmus program and she has completed Gender Mainstreaming School at the Polish Academy of Sciences. 

 

  Daria Suwała
Project Officer

Daria joined KARAT in September 2009 and she took the position of Project Officer in KARAT’s Women’s  ights program. Currently, Daria is involved in 3-years project Women’s NGOs Coalition on CEDAW and Women’s Access to Justice. She cooperates closely with Aleksandra Solik. Philosopher by training, Daria has decided to continue her education at the Faculty of Law. Her previous experience in the field of human rights includes traineeship at the Council of Europe, focused on rights of national minorities. In the past Daria  cooperated with NGO’s from Georgia and Armenia. She has visited Caucasus several times during private trips and she is dreaming about going to Central Asia.

 

PROJECT COORDINATORS

 
 Marta Gontarska
Project Coordinator & PR Officer
Before Marta took a position of PR Officer, she was a KARAT’s volunteer for over two years. She helped with logistics of numerous events and assisted in a research on women in garment industry. Since January 2008 she is responsible for maintaining good relations with public and media, and currently involved in the project  Through their eyes,  through ours where she is responsible for PR strategy and communication. She coordinated the makeITfair project and now she is working on gender and development issues in the CONNECT! Project. During her philological studies she specialized in PR and media. Before joining KARAT’s Secretariat she was co-operating with NGOs focusing on art.
 
 
 Ewa Pintera
Project Coordinator

Ewa joined KARAT in March 2008 as a Coordinator of the project: Through Their eyes, Through Ours: Rising Publics Awareness about development problems faced by women from developing countries from EU Eastern Neighbourhood, Balkans and Central Asia. Ewa graduated the faculty of International Relations in 2004 and since that time has been dealing with development issues, migration and refugees particularly. Now her interests has turned more on gender justice in developing countries.

Magdalena Pocheć

Magda joined KARAT Secretariat in January 2008 where she implements projects within the Women’s Human Rights Program of KARAT. She coordinates CEDAW related activities in Poland, including the production of Polish Shadow Report. Cross-cultural and gender psychologist by training, she also completed postgraduate Queer Studies. She is a member of the editorial committee of Replika, Polish LGBTQ magazine. Her major expertise area is sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), especially as regards transgender persons. In October 2007 – October 2008, Magda was holding a post of a vice-chair of YouAct, European Youth Network on Sexual Rights. Magda coauthored Shadow Report on the status of women in Poland submitted to the CEDAW Committee for its 38th Session in January 2007.

 

Pamela Wells
Financial Coordinator

 

Pamela joined KARAT in October 2010. Working closely with program managers and project coordinators, as well as an external accountant, she is responsible for KARAT’s finance. This includes developing budgets, monitoring accounts, cost control, and financial reporting to funders.
Born in California, she lived in England for over a decade, where she was involved with voluntary organisations in the creative and cultural sector. In 2008, she took up permanent residence in Warsaw.
 
 Julia Wrede
Project Coordinator

Julia has been working in Karat since February 2007. Currently she is on parental leave.
