Advocacy

The main form of our activities are the advocacy for gender equality, women’s rights and social and economic justice. Our aim is to make the policies and legislation in Poland in line with the international standards of equality between women and men, and with the conventions and agreements adopted by Poland. Our initiatives in Poland refers mainly to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

In the past Karat was heavily involved in advocacy at the United Nations level (implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, CEDAW and ILO conventions), the European Union level (especially in the context of the EU enlargement process in 2004-2007 and the neighborhood policy), and in the countries of the Karat’s member organizations (the Region).

The advocacy activities in 2016-17 were possible thanks to the program Democracy in Action (Counteracting discrimination) of the Stefan Batory Foundation (institutional grant).

The advocacy activities in 2015-16 were conducted as a part of the “Citizens for Democracy” program financed by the EEA funds.
