This report is a summary of the research on working conditions of women employed in super-/hypermarkets in Poland. The research was conducted by KARAT within the project “Improvement of work conditions of women employed in chains of large area retail institutions in Poland”. Report: Work conditions and respecting of employees’ rights in supermarkets in Poland from the gender equality perspective. (Also in Polish).

The report is a legal analysis focusing on the labour rights protection system related to the forms and areas of violations of the labour rights of women employed in super-/hypermarkets in Poland. The areas of violations were identified by the research conducted by KARAT in 2008. There are two main conclusions of the report. One is that the employers aim at maximization of profits at the costs of the employees and their rights, second one – that it is possible to protect employees of super-/ hypermarkets from abuses using existing labour law regulations. This is a report by PlayFair2008 Campaign that was run on the occasion of Beijing Olympics in 2008. KARAT as a partner in this initiative, translated and published the report in Polish. The report presents the main problems related to labour rights obedience in sportswear factories, provides facts illustrating the roots of these problems (which are closely related to the structures and pattern of functioning global sportswear industry as a whole), and finally, recommends the solutions.
